Anyone good at arguing a point....

I'm currently studying for my AS levels, doing fine, I have 2 part time jobs, and my parents want me to drop one to concentrate more on my studies. One is 4.31/hr and half a day, the other is 4.70/hr and a full day. To me it makes sense to continue the full day job, as I need to save as much money for uni as possible. My parents say I should keep the half day job so I can have time to go out with my friends during the other half of the day, and have a full day to do schoolwork. The way I see it, I'd still be out of the house for a full day, just getting paid for half, so I may as well continue the full day job and see my friends during the week. They refuse to see my point of view even though I do appreciate theirs - I am in desperate need of good solid arguments to support my case.

Firstly, it won't make a huge amount of difference - you'll still be in debt after uni. Wish I could argue your case, but I had the exact same circumstance at the same point in my life. I kept the day job, and lost the half day. Got a good set of A levels, and went to a good uni. The money I made from my day job helped to keep my head above water, but only just, and I still had debt. I usually had to spend most of Sunday studying, but socialised Fri and Sat nights, and maybe once during the rest of the week.
Ultimately, I suppose your parents just want to make sure you get as good grades as possible so that you actually get to uni.

It all depends on how much of your week is spent socialising, and how much you study. You also don't want to burn out from doing too much of everything.

If I was in you situation this is what I would do - I would work the full day job and devote the other times to studying. I would see my friends only on Saturdays, Sundays are for studying and doing things for myself (me time). The most important thing right now is getting my education, a job would bring in some income which would be a great help towards my education. I wouldn't forget my friends but they would have to understand; in years to come they would not be volunteering to support y me or pay my bills. Whatever you choose to do, do not neglect your education. Good luck!

I think you're totally fine with the jobs you've got. I had 3 jobs throughout my AS and A levels and the first year of my degree.

My parents had similar concerns which, at the time, I didn't understand or appreciate. However, a few years later I managed to self fund myself through uni and obtain a 2.1 in law...so it can be done and done well.

My argument would be if your parents are willing to fund you going out, socialising, travel, uni fees, living costs etc then fine you'll give up the jobs. However, if your parents would rather you learnt some responsibility and got some good work experience to put on your Cv then you're going to keep the jobs and continue to do what you're doing thank you very much!

What is it you do in both your jobs? When you finish your degree etc and are looking for grad jobs, what often makes some candidates stand out from the rest is what previous experience they have had. At the end of the day you're gonna be in debt anyway after uni (as others have said) but the experience and skills learnt now are things money cant buy!
