Sacked
6 Answers
Does anyone out there have any advice on what I should write on an application form and say in interviews about my last job which I was sacked from? It wasn't stealing or anything bad. The employer said I was lazy. I disagreed strongly and still do. I worked hard. But there was no arguing with him.
I'm tempted to lie but that's no good.
Thanks all for replies.

In an interview, you could always try the old "clash of personalities" line. e.g.:
"I just couldn't seem to get on with my boss. I think there must have been a clash of personalities. I worked really hard but whatever I did was never good enough for him. I'm looking for a fresh start where I can prove to someone new just how good I am at my job".
Such an approach might work but I have to admit that, when I was teaching, parents frequently blamed their offspring's laziness on a 'clash of personalities' with me. I've learnt to treat the phrase as code for 'damned lazy' ;-)

Thanks everybody.
I like the idea of saying a clash of personalities, which I think it was anyway, he just didn't like me. It happens.
And I am happy to say that. My problem is if future employers ask ex employer for references. I'll be found out. And that makes me wonder if it's the reason I have been turned down for the jobs I have been interviewed for. I just can't decide what to do.

BTW thanks to Buenchico for the refernces answer. I'll read it again and try making up my mind.
