i wasnt aware i had to ask PANIC,until it happened to me !!
Yeah its just a carrier bag to you Poodi, but to the company it's part of their policy and one, which if you work for, you have to adhere to.
the lady on the till in my local Asda yesterday did not offer me a green bag, should I report her? :-) She did ask me if I needed help with my packing but I said i could manage my two items all by myself.

There really is some proper tw-ts working in these supermarkets. The managers really are c-cksuckers sometimes, get another job it's not worth it !
its quite sad, people in general. where i shop, abroad that is, theres about 25 checkouts, inc a green checkout. this 1 normally hasnt a queue. why is it so hard to carry a green bag!! hence i dont usually have to wait in queues
Was the bag you were supposed to have offered free, or would the customer have to pay? If paying, then it's just a sales ploy. I'm afraid these are things you just have to get used to in the customer-facing service industry. Many of these 'initiatives' are dreamt up by staff who are not customer-facing in the hope that it will sound good and justify their existence.

I feel that all this was started by McDonalds (like so many other irritating phrases emanating from the USA, e.g 'anything else I can help you with?'). Although it is many years since I patronised one of their establishments, it used to annoy me intensely when buying a burger to be routinely asked, "Would you like fries with that?" My invariable response was to the effect that had I wished to do so I would have asked at the time of ordering. Yet the poor assistant, like yourself, would have been 'counselled', had the question not been asked.

To turn this on its head: until fairly recently, whenever I paid in Morrison's supermarket with a debit card I was always asked, "Do you want any cash back?", to which my answer was invariably 'No'. However, a few months ago, I found that actually I did need some money, but the question had not been asked. When asking for £20 I was told that my transactions had already been processed and would have to start again. On asking why, I was told that this facility was still available, but only on request, and staff had been instructed not to proactively offer this service. I am still waiting for a satisfactory explanation of this volte-face.
I'm not sure that it's a major problem is it? If prendi had been disciplined straight away then that would be very harsh, but he/she has now been informed that the company regards it as important to provide green bags.
prendi do customers pay for these bags comapred to free bags?
Try telling your employer that offering green bags goes against your religious beliefs.

I was in Tescos' the other day and purchased £35 worth of shopping. The lady at the till asked if I wanted any cash back, so I got £20. How's that then I only paid £15 for the goods and they say that the supermarkets are all about profit ! :)
Thirty years ago, when I worked for the Co-op, supermarket managers generally treated their staff as inarticulate, unworthy sh*te who should be grateful for a job at all, despite the fact that many of them had more qualifications that said managers had brain cells.

Throughout the succeeding years, as I've visited and shopped in more supermarkets than I care to remember, it appears they still do.
in the local well known knicker selling store that also sells food the young girl asked me if i wanted a bag for my groceries - as apposed to struggling out with things tucked under my arm etc

yes please, that will be 5p sir......

i said that is quite a bargain so heres a quid and give me 20!
