isn't it in the schools best intrests to get as many students as many gcses at c or above as possible?

But this one person who gets a's in his exams was off sick when the teacher wnated the coursework in, but not the official moderating deadline when it has to be sent away.

Because of this, and the teacher said that his mum could have brought it in (she couldn't possibly because the whole family was ill aswell) he wasn't going to mark it, which meant that it counted as a non submission, so he'll be entered for the foundation paper, can he do this?

Plus, because he wil lbe entered for the foundation paper with 1/4 of his marks at a u, he can't possibly even get a c, but if the teacher will mark it, or even allow him to go in for the higher and gets an a*, he would probably end up with a c or even a b.
Yes, they should have applied for mitigating circumstances and an extension may have been given as they didn't it's just a failure to hand it in. Couldn't they have emailed it to the teacher/school?
im sure his mother can go above your teachers head and discuss it with senior staff..
Why are you telling us this and not him? Have you spoken to him about this?
Unlucky but in the real world you will have to stick to dealines. I'm sure someone could have brought the coursework in. A neighbour or friend perhaps?
Question Author
I think she will do, but if they don't even have to be sent away to moderated, doesn't he still have to mark them?
isnt it up to the student involved, and his parents, to discuss this with the teacher and/or head?

if the coursework was completed i really dont see how it was impossible to get it to the school

a-v, the deadline isn't even up yet, only the date at which the teacher wanted the work handed in. the mum already has or wil lbe ringing him shortly, i dont know if she was up to it, before we broke up for easter.

I don't know every detail of the situation, but the teacher to me, sounds like he is out of line.
Question Author
They live out in the sticks and they thought that it would be ok to hand it in after the holidays with a note explaining why it couldn't be handed in, but on the last day of school the teacher phoned the mum up to tell her that it won;t be marked, submitted and the person will be entered for the foundation paper, but of course she was really ill, and couldn't say much especially not argue her sons case.
Why is he out of line? He has asked for the work to be brought in. I don't see what you are getting at? He is right not to mark it if the deadline has passed.
im sure she will sort it out once she speaks to someone higher up. she can complain about the teacher while she is dealing with it...
Question Author
a-v if the official dead line that the work has to be sent away for hasn't been met yet and the person has a good reason for not handing it in on time, and the teacher is being unreasonable about it, he is being out of line, in my opinion.
Why didn't they get in touch with the school before the last day of term? A deadline is a deadline, what's the point in having them if they're not going to be enforced?
He isn't being unreasonable. If the teacher says it must be handed in by a certain date then that is what should have happened. You are going to find life in the real world difficult if you do not understand this.
the teacher is sticking to the deadline he put out, not the sending deadline.

why wasnt this mentioned towards the end of last term?
Question Author
But it wasn't an official deadline, jsut a date, when the teacher wanted them handed in, if he had of said that he wouldn't makr anything handed in after it, then i'm sure they would have done something to get in to school, but they didn't think they needed to
In that case, there would have been no point in him setting a date. People would have brought them in at any time and expected him to mark them.
surely announcing a hand in date is enough, are you saying that when you get a deadline you pay no attention to it unless they threaten to not accept work after the date? a deadline is a deadline ..
Question Author
cazz, are you talking about me asking this, or the teacher telling us he won't makr them after the easter holidays?
