I have recently started work and my last two wages were paid by check.. My third wage is again by check however my employer will not release the check until I send my bank details to them. In the first week of my employment with this company and gave my bank details and a copy of my passport (and they lost the copy of the passport) They also owe overtime payments which I worked in March and April. I have recieved my payslip but no money. Can they legally do this.

No they can't.

Hurry them up, or see if they will pay direct into your bank account.
Give them the bank details and you'll get paid direct into your bank.

This seems rather simple to me!!
