Basic CV?

I am applying for a new job and they want the application completing, with a statement and a CV. I have never had to do a CV before and I've had a look on google but there are so many examples please can someone recommend a good website that I can get some ideas from? Many Thanks

If you've got Microsoft Word on your computer you've got several templates available to use, all of which look professional. Click on File>Open>From Template>Resumes to find them. (That's a summary of the route. You'll probably see slightly different things displayed on your screen, depending upon which version of Word you're using).

Even easier though, simply read through the guidelines here, then click on the words 'this format' to download a sample word document which you can amend and complete as required:

when you compile your CV, keep it unfussy and simple, highlight any parts of your education training or work experience that are relevent to the job you are applying for and elaborate on those aspects to match the advertisement, try to identify any key phrases in the ad that you can use on your CV to draw the attention of the person screening applicants, so if you have an NVQ level 1 in manual handling and it metions manual handling, make that bold in the CV and use the same wording they have in the ad. That would usually get you into the 'possibles' pile of applicants.

Add your date of birth as this is important information for an employer and save time on interviews.

Jaydah's advice is in total contradiction to that given by JobCentre Plus. I recently attended a seminar, organised by JCP, where we participants were told that we should NEVER include our dates of birth or National Insurance numbers on job applications. This was both for data protection and to try to prevent (unlawful) age discrimination.

I agree, never include your age on a CV it is irrelevent unless you are applying for a post where there is an legal age restriction, like 16 year olds selling alcohol unsupervised,

Fine if Job Centre are offering employment. You need to think what the employer would want to make an assessment. No point in applying for employment with a head full of 'my rights' !

and you have to provide proof of your national insurance number and right to work in the UK anyway (usually passport) if you are asked to interview,

I agree with Chris and Dotty. Never put your age or DOB on job application or CV unless it's a specific requirement.

Like I said, when screening applicanys you have to show fairness and you are not allowed to consider gender, age or potential child care issues. Any employer that has any of those concerns will not be worth working for

I use i-grasp at work and HO screen the applicants for their matches to the advertised vacancy, then I interview using a set criteria and scenario based questions, the only personal info I am allowed to ask for is their right to work in the UK and proof of national insurance number,

Depends on numbers applying for a position and the interviewer. The more info you offer the better your chances of an interview.
