No payment for training ??
I started work for a company through an agency on the 6th of dec, the first week was mostly training, in a classroom for 2 days then on the job for the next two days.
i drove over 300 miles in that week to attend the courses and now i am hearing that i will not be payed at all for that training week. is this legal? and is there much i can do about it if they dont pay me?

We still haven't got to the bottom of who is paying your salary - is it the agency? If they have placed you with this company then the company pay the agency (usually) and the agency pay you. (That's what happened to me when I worked through an agency). You therefore need to go back to the agency and find out what they think they are paying you for that training week. Don't listen to rumour, get the facts from the person who is paying your wages. You must have signed a contract with the agency.
So, you went and registered with an agency.
They then provide you with the details of a company needing staff.
1. Did you contact the company directly to arrange the training, or, were you informed, by the agency that you had to attend the training course ?
2. Who held the interview ? The agency, or the company ?
3. Who told you about the £ 50 per day ? The company or the agency ?

Right, we are getting somewhere! Usually they pay you a week in arrears - so I do suggest, give them a ring, ask them when you are going to be paid since you started work on 6th December, so you will be due at least some money for December. When they tell you, clarify with them whether you are in fact being paid for that training week at the rate you were told. It would not be unusual for a new recruit to be unclear about some details, so they won't mind you asking. Do it now - set your mind at rest.
