lol BM, you are determined to somewhat get annoyed with me aren't you (or perhaps annoy me?)? As it happens the process is explained in detail on the WWW itself and actually gives more information than i've given above. As a relative of the person, i was also involved in providing details to the DV people (and wasn't asked to keep my involvement "secret"). The referees themselves are given (again) more info than i've provided here. In addition there are many different jobs that require dv clearance (for example a firend of my workmate worked at number 10 in a very lowly admin capacity and needed it as do "spies")
Although your answer hasn't been at all helpful, depite the fact that you clearly know a lot about HR issues and i would have thought you could have answered if you had been so inclined (in fact when i saw i had an answer from you, i was pleased because i thought "well BM usually knows the right answer" ). One wonders what you are doing on a question and answer site unless at least trying to help other people (regardless of whether the answers given are completely correct or not), it has at least made me think out the answer for myself (which is of course if you need dv vetting for your job, if you won the lottery and they thought you could suddenly develop principles, they could simply withdraw your vetting on financial grounds and thus you wouldn't be able to do your job, one of the conditions being you need current D vetting. So it wouldn't need to be in your contract about the lottery, just that you needed to have clearance.
