high securuty job - how could they sack you?
24 Answers
hi, on of my relatives works in a reasonably high security job (where they had to have extended govt' vetting before they could start) For the vetting, they look at all your bank accounts (plus people that live with you) they personally interview 4-6 referees, look into your background plus the backgrounds of all your family plus a personal interview which includes such questions as ""have you ever had an affair, have you ever had any homosexual experiences, are you a swinger" and so on. They are basically making sure you can't be blackmailed into giving away national security secrets.
Anyway, this relative was telling me that if they won the lottery they wouldn't be able to carry on working because they wouldn't let you.
Anyone have any ideas on which grounds they could sack you in this circmstance?

As it happens the process is explained in detail on the WWW itself and actually gives more information than i've given above. As a relative of the person, i was also involved in providing details to the DV people (and wasn't asked to keep my involvement "secret"). The referees themselves are given (again) more info than i've provided here. In addition there are many different jobs that require dv clearance (for example a firend of my workmate worked at number 10 in a very lowly admin capacity and needed it as do "spies")
Although your answer hasn't been at all helpful, depite the fact that you clearly know a lot about HR issues and i would have thought you could have answered if you had been so inclined (in fact when i saw i had an answer from you, i was pleased because i thought "well BM usually knows the right answer" ). One wonders what you are doing on a question and answer site unless at least trying to help other people (regardless of whether the answers given are completely correct or not), it has at least made me think out the answer for myself (which is of course if you need dv vetting for your job, if you won the lottery and they thought you could suddenly develop principles, they could simply withdraw your vetting on financial grounds and thus you wouldn't be able to do your job, one of the conditions being you need current D vetting. So it wouldn't need to be in your contract about the lottery, just that you needed to have clearance.

the thing is i know BM usually has good HR advice, and could have provided it if he wasn't so pleased he could score a point off me. It's just a shame that on a q and a site if you actually know the answers you don't use your knowledge to good advantage and actuallty help people rather than berating them
