How can I find work on board a Cruise Ship?

As you all know I am still looking for work, and am considering many things. I am now thinking of working on board cruise ships, but need to know the next stage forward. Is is best to find work through an agency, and if so what is its' website? If not then do I contact the cruise companies directly, and if so can you name some of them for me? Is there a list of cruise lines which I can all email, all in one go?

Have you got 'boaty' experience? Someone from my cadet unit who got to the second highest rate as a cadet (quite an achievement) got a job as a deckhand as she had relevant 'boaty' experience from cadets and is now working in the bridge, after only a couple of years.

Thanks for your speedy answers, folks, but can not help noticing that they are asking for money to register on this first site. Surely they should be paying me? I wonder if there are any agencies which would do all the donkey work finding a job for me, and if so then would I have to pay for them?

How old are you JonnyBoy12, and have you any current Job skills ?
If you are unskilled, highly unlikely that you will get a job aboard ship !

i know a young relative who had worked in a coctail bar, started on the liners and has been to some fabulous places.

Wow, that is an awkward question; I am 38 years old, and have very many office qualifications in computing and typing, and have been a Bus Driver for the past 6 years. Yes, I do know that driving skills are of no use on board ship, but surely there would be some reception or office work for me to do on board. If not then could always work as a porter or waiter.

There is a list of Cruise Liner Companies here. If I were you I would choose a few companies e.g P&O, Cunard etc etc and either write or Email them directly asking about current vacancies. Do not part with any money to 3rd Parties as they are only acting as Agents etc.

Jack, you don't know what kind of experience Dani gained from cadets . . . there's all kinds of maritime courses she could have completed aswell as the leadership kinda skills aswell.

On the P&O cruise ships I've been on all the waiters were Goan, and the stewards and bar staff were Fillipinos.

It helps if you are a good allrounder too, Many of the staff are also the entertainers on board. It doesn't matter a jot whether you have 'boaty' skills at all.

Every ship should have a bell, I saw one on the ferry last summer, which was a converted cruise ship. So HA (in a nice way).

Apart from the ship's officers and engineering crew you don't need any knowledge of ships whatsoever.............you'd do better with experience of working at Butlins.
