CV First Job

Better to get your first job as soon as possible rather than wait and they ask you why you have never worked at 20...
So I'm just going round handing CV's everywhere but it doesn't seem to be getting very far. My friend got a job by just phoning up and asking if they had any saturday jobs but the thing is with me I can only do friday afternoon or sunday's.. not saturday. What do you say when you hand in your CV? Just now i just go in and say 'hi, can i hand in my cv?' and hand it over... but seriously how do you get a job?!?!?!

My partner saw an add on the Jobcentre website on the Wednesday, went for an interview on the Thursday and started on Friday morning. The hours are 5am until 8am which is a bit of a bind because i have to walk (about 10 mins) her to work but its a small price to pay for the extra income, she is also at college so the hours fit in well with her schedule. Its a cleaning job at a local supermarket, if you can get out of bed at that sort of time it could be an option worth considering???
When I left college there was a recession and I lived in an unemployment blackspot anyway. We had about five major emplyoyers in the area and I wrote to them all. In those days (1980s) CVs weren`t as vital as they are now. Of the five organisations I wrote to, three replied that they didn`t have any work, one didn`t bother to reply at all and the other company just happened to have a girl who was leaving to have a baby and I got the job. I think a letter introducing yourself accompanied by your CV might be the way to go. If you put everything in writing it gets to the right people. Good luck
It depends what sort of jobs you are going for, sophie - you really ought to show on your c.v. that you have skills which would be useful for that job. You can comment on the sort of work in your covering letter - so you need to do a bit of work beforehand to see what a Sunday job at that company might involve.
