Are parking tickets issued in supermarket car parks legal and can they be enforced?
Apparently I spent too long shopping and have been asked to fork out £30 as it seems I overstayed my welcome!!!!!

Taken from a Newspaper today relating to an incident recently involving parking on Private Land
"According to consumer group Which, motorists receiving a parking ticket on private land not issued by police or a council, can only be issued with a Parking Charge Notice, rather than a Penalty Charge Notice
The operator is entitled to pursue the recipient for a parking charge proportionate to the normal advertised cost of parking or losses to the company caused by overstaying.
But they are not fines and can only be enforced by taking the motorist to a small claims court.
I suppose 'Which' is talking out of their rears are they? Or out of date?
If the full days parking in £10 what company is going to bother getting legal advice and taking an individual to court to win £10 or a protion thereof?

if your case goes to court then you obviously contest it -I.m not condoning putting Court papers in the bin!!! My original comment which seems to have got lost, was than many of these companies -like you have said- rely on scare tactics for you to cough up a 'fine' with the help of fake solicitors letters etc.
As somebody who has called their bluff and heard no more on the matter (recently), I say, if you feel morally enabled not to pay, then don't. If you have had communication from the supermarket telling you not to worry this only confirms this, as there clearly isn't a legal directive (as the supermarket couldn't just verbally tell you not to worry).
