If a will spreads over onto a second page, should they be attached or left separate?

I used to draft wills for a living. It can be a good idea to number the pages (e.g. 'Page 1 of 2' and 'Page 2 of 2) but it's not a requirement. However you should never staple or pin the pages. The same applies to a codicil. (Just put it in the same envelope as the will).
If you need help in preparing a will, I strongly recommend getting hold of a copy of this book. (It's in many public libraries; it won't matter if you get an older edition as the essential stuff about drafting a will hasn't changed). Even if you plan to use the services of a solicitor, it's still well worth reading first:

I am sorry to disagree with Chris but I say that the original pages of the Will SHOULD be attached to each other preferably by stapling. Otherwise there might be some question as to the pages being replaced. This will remove any doubt that the original Will was as signed by the testator. If the pages are unconnected the first page could easily be replaced. It is far harder to replace the first page of a Will if it has been stapled since the probate registry will look quite closely at the holes in the top of a will.
If additional codicils are made, then I absolutely agree they should not be attached by paperclip or whatever. Indeed nothing should ever be attached to an original Will.
