Advice Re. Attendance Allowance

my wife gets a carers premium for looking after me.i have been told that now i am 65 years old i may be able to claim attendance allowance ( i am disabled and need halp in the day and also at night) do i/we have to stop claiming carers allowance before applying for attendance allowance or can i claim and if successful
the new payment would just supercede the old one.

However, for your wife to be claiming carer's allowance you must be in receipt of DLA, PIP or Attendance Allowance. You cannot get Attendance Allowance and DLA or PIP.
You get PIP if you are under 65 when you first claim for your disability or ill health (it used be called Disability Living Allowance and some long term claimants still get this). If you are over 65 when you first claim you get Attendance Allowance.
