How much do you spend on groceries per week? I was wondering whether I spend too much. As I am disabled, I have to rely on home deliveries which have a minimum spend, so I often have to do a whole order when I only need maybe one or two things. What do you spend each week, and how many do you shop for?
Hi Scarlett. I do an online shop with Sainsbury's for two adults, and with alcohol, (for him, I don't drink) I spend £80-£90 per week, then I might spend £5-£10 when I'm out and about in the week.
I shop for one mainly (sometimes get extra for when Grandchildren are coming) and including alcohol and often postage stamps too spend about £90 every 12 days or so.
I have a midweek delivery pass from Tesco to keep charges down.
There are two of us and we probably spend about £50 on food and household items. That includes a main shop and a few bits from the market stall and independent shop. We each spend a little bit more on our lunch a couple of days a week.
I always thought £50 per week per person was about average, but then I realised that was the figure that had been in my head since I was a student, and that it has probably gone up a bit. I also buy things like toiletries, stamps, stationery, everything really. I think I am spending too much after looking at everyone else's figures!
Scarlett, recently retired and although I am managing on what I get, I am also trying to find ways to cut down. But it is hard as both of us like our food and drinks. What I say is, if you can afford it, go for it, life is too short!
