tricky one. Once they took your money a contract was formed. had they not done so then yes, they can cancel. One for the contract law experts.
As Paypal is registered in Luxembourg they have probably dont that to avoid some of the stiffer trading laws.

Took the money got a Paypal email saying they had been paid
Yes, they can.
It depends on either of two things:
The terms and conditions of the seller.
When selling online companies can state that a contract is not formed until the item is delivered. This is perfectly legal and means the seller can cancel the order at any point up until delivery regardless of whether they have accepted payment.

The price. If an item usually selling for £1000 is advertised for £100 then it should be obvious that that is a genuine error, unless there is something in the advert that makes it clear there is no mistake. In this case the company can cancel the order.
If the difference is minimal then unless the terms and conditions state otherwise they may be bound by it.

It's worth knowing that some very big companies such as Argos, Tesco Direct and Screwfix have all been able to refuse to supply goods that have been advertised at the wrong price even after they have accepted payment.
Would the same still apply if col72 had gone into a shop, paid the price asked and taken away the goods?
In a shop the law is easier.

If an item is advertised at the wrong price, the shop can legally refuse to sell at that price if it is a mistake. If the shop accepts payment it cannot take the item back nor demand more money
Yes they can. Just re-order whatever it was.

from personal experience - I walked into PCW and teh overweight manager said I would buy thatif I were you....
and it was a scrombogulator ( all-electric ) at £150 and I just didnt kinda need one that week ....
and HE then said retails for £501 but it is advertised for £150 so if we dont sell a few ( two actually ) we will get done by trading standards
( doesnt force them to sell it to you by the way )
O and Hoover

they advertised america flight for £10 and a hoover
and when they said oo er didnt quite mean that ....
as something like 100 000 took them up on it

people started faxing Hoova US who knew NOTHING about it and they started questioning whether Hoover UK admin were worthy of their jobs.....
I cant remember if everyone who bought a hoover got a ticket

sagain not a legal right but shows the power of squawking
What a load of cobblers, PP. If the store knew the advertised price was wrong the manager could have removed the goods from sale entirely and the website changed. Idiot manager - or fibbing manager trying to flog his wares
could be
he specifically mentioned a national Sunday - news of the screws probably

and I didnt need a scrombogulator ....
oh what happened to Hoover ?
that was a load of old *** as well was it ?
We went to get a PC from PC World once after seeing an advert in a national newspaper.

When we got there the shop advertised price was £150 more than the paper advert.

They sold it to us at the paper price but then took them off the shelf to check how much they should be.

I don't know if they were obliged to sell it to us at the lower rate but they did anyway.
