This is probably a better list, as it is the ‘banking licence’ that determines whether they count as the same bank for the purposes of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (and not who owns whom).

Looking at my posted link, which includes links to the FSCS web site, it is far from easy to determine which banks share a common licence (for the purposes of FSCS protection).

 

Why they can’t supply such a simple list, it beyond me – using the FSCS website you have to enter the bank(s) reference number(s) and the amounts held to find if you are protected to the full amount(s).

 

You can google each bank of interest to find their reference number, but having a different reference number is no guarantee of not sharing a banking licence – so you will still need to enter the details on the FSCS website.

How did you check Barry ?

I googled the name of each bank and building society to check.

Of course you could email each one and ask them for your own peace of mind.

Halifax BS is a division of Bank of Scotland, owned by Lloyds
