my widowed friends daughter is separated from her husband and will duly divorce. My friend is in poor health and is concerned that should she die before the divorce that half of her daughters inheritance can be claimed by her estranged husband. is this so? Thank you for any answers.

I don't think so. People seem to think that everything is half and half in a marriage. But it's not. If she can proove where the money came from then it's hers.
I strongly advise your friend to spend �50 or so making a will. This will put her mind at rest and stop her fretting.
The husband has claim to half of any joint property (?house maybe) but nothing automatic to anything else.

hmmm not so sure .... if she inherits surely then in the event of a divorce then her financial situation would not be the same as prior to that, and therefore if it ended up in a Court battle then her assets would be part of the marital pot, or effect how much she might receive in the event of a settlement.
