My partner has recently bought a cable adaptor for his car stereo. He did some research and found the cable he thought he needed and asked the shop to order it. It arrived and turned out to be incorrect. We have now asked for either a refund or exchange. We understand a refund may not be possible as it was our mistake but is the shop required by law to exchange the item for the correct one if possible? Or are we out of pocket?
You are out of pocket unless the shop takes pity on you and agrees to an exchange.
The shop has ordered in a part specifially for your partner and they ordered what he requested. Now he finds it is not the correct one, the shop are under no obligation to change it. It would be different if they had ordered the wrong part.
They could potentially be left with a part that no-one else wants and that they are unable to sell if they agree to an exchange.
