Consumer Law Question (Pt 1)

I am so angry about this that I may well go on abit so apologies before I start. I am friends with an elderly man who lives nearby and for the last 4 yrs I have helped him in any way I can with regards to things like making sure he was getting his full pension, arranging for him to get a home help (from social services) to come in twice a week to help him with his personal hygiene (aiding him to get in and out of his shower). Okay, now the crux of this story is, one day he received a call from a man selling beds, this was in June 2005, when I popped in that evening he told me Im getting a new bed, he added that a fellow came that day and told him the wonders this bed would do for his arthritis, anyway the bed was delivered the very next day which I thought was rather quick. I had at that time only really known the old man for just over a year and I didn't want to appear too nosey with regards to his business at that time. I totally regret that now and if I'd known then just how gullible and trusting Jack was, I would have stuck my nose in good and proper. It's only been these last few weeks thyat Ive got to the bottom of exactly how much he has been fleeced for this bed (its one of those adjustable beds) when Jack got himself in a muddle about the payments that he's been making for the bed. He thought that he only had a few payments left to make of 65-37 per month and that would be the end of it. Bed paid for. I worked out that he'd roughly paid 1600 for the bed which though I thought was very expensive, the deed was done and that I thought, was that. It was only this evening that I came across the agreement for the bed (whilst helping him search for something he'd mislaid) and it turns out that he has in fact been charged almost 4,000 for it. (to be continued)
