debt default

3 years ago after a particularly hideous couple of years during I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. I panicked and departed the UK to be with family but I left debts of about 20,000 pounds made up mostly of a personal loan from a high street bank, a old deferred student load and some credit card debt. I don't know what has happend in this period. How do I found out? And should my health allow will I ever be able to set foot in the UK again? I have sleepless nights over this and its not good for my health - I need some sort of resolution.
