I visited my mothers' property today (she is 80 and in hospital having fallen and fractured her hip) I found some some smashed and broken "Port Meirion" pottery pieces on her living room mantlepiece, and some bits on the floor. Next door have the builders in, and are renovating the house.
Mum has house insurance, but I don't believe she has accidental or all risks cover....I welcome some advice on what I should do?

First impression is are you blaming the building work and if so, how can you possibly prove it?

Sorry, and I don't mean this to sound harsh in any way, but if your mum can fall over and break her hip, then it is quite feasible that other little accidents can have taken place, including accidentally knocking over the pottery.

Hi Postdog - I call at the house every other day, the pieces have broken recently, and certainly when the property was vacant.
I am not saying I don't believe you - the point is proving anything was their fault, and to be honest, I don't think you could - too much open to doubt.
