sick cert

I have been off work for 6 days with flu, did the decent thing and phoned in sick and again to say I am resuming. My pal at her firm has ben asked to get a self cert cert from the doctors after 3 days, but I understood that you did not need a cert for flu providing you were off one week or less.
Do I have to produce one ? I never had to in the past.advice pls.

You can self cert for up to 1 week. If you normally work a 5 day week and have been off for 6 work days, that would be over a week and you would need a doctors cert.
The employeer can ask for evidence if they have any reason to doubt the illness is genuine

If your firm ask for one you will need to take one in with you. There is a notice on the door of my doctors saying.
