Finders Keepers !!
my catering trailer was stolen 8 yr s ago, I recently saw it in someone else's drive, it has been recovered by the Police, on the evidence i supplied, the present owner is claiming to be a Innocent Purchaser, and is making a claim for it. can any one advise me? Thank you
t has now been passed to on to GMPA who are asking me to pay £150 to be party to inter-pleading proceedings,
Do i need legal representation?

It is not a simple, straightforward matter.
As a general rule, if property has been stolen, the original owner or their insurance company have a better title than an innocent purchaser. However, this does not apply where deception has been involved, and may not apply if the property has been added to or altered since it left the original owner’s hands.
Proceedings under the Police (Property) Act 1897 may be taken in the Magistrates' Court.
Complicated cases may be referred to the County Court (for property worth £30,000 or less) or to the High Court (for property worth £30,000 or more).
