cctv overlooking our property

we recently had a village hall built opposite the back of our property, we have private parking, garage and back gate that is overlooked by the camera which is supposed to cover a back passage to the hall, this is seperated from us by a fence and alley which is private where the parking, garage and our back gate is situated. Are we within our rights to ask to have this cameras angle mooved as it is adjustable so that our property is not overlooked???

It 'could' be contravening the Human Rights Act: Article 8 - 'The Right to Respect for Private and Family Life, Home and Correspondence'.

I don't see how you can do anything here. The camera is not on your land. You could ask them to move it but I see no reason why they should.

Can they actualy see into your property? If so I would think so.

if its only overlooking you garage and parking is, is it really that big a deal? Id actually find it reassuiring that, should anything happen to my car that there may be evidence available.
but if its recording inside you home then, obviously thats different and it wouldnt hurt to politely ask for the angle to be altered

I'm no expert but I understood that CCTV was not supposed to overlook the owner's borders. But before insisting on rights, why not express your concern regarding privacy to the council, who presumably runs the hall, and see if they are willing to change it anyway ?

it overlooks our back gate and fence and as we only use that entrance they see all comings and goings, my husband has agraphobia and is only able to go out as far as our garage in the alley, it is upsetting him as he feels watched all the time and since it has been put up rarely goes out there, it was a big achievment to get him to go that far and to see him so stressed at the thought is upsetting

they may not be aware that you are overlooked and deffo not aware of how distressing it is....go and talk to them.

have sent them a letter and as yet have had no answer, they are aware of my husbands condition and the fact the camera overlooks us.

Most CCTV cameras have something called Privacy Zone Blanking which is programmed in so that when the cameras is looking in a certain place, that area will be blacked out. Might be worth asking them to do this.

after hearing of the medial condition and the distress being caused maybe they will even move it to another place and direct it away completely I would hate for them to move it slightly in angle and it still effect him because he can see its there what ever angle it may point.

How do you know it overlooks you property? Have you seen the footage? Does it record or does someone have to watch in real time? Does it actualu work or is it a dummy to fool people?

Just because it looks like it is pointing at you doesn't mean it is.

If it just overlooks parking areas there is probably little that can be done to change it anyway.

There is the old adage that 'if it can be viewed from outside your property then it can be filmed from outside your property' However with all this stuff about human rights it has probably changed.
