my partner left his wife and went to stay at his mothers in the divide he got the bed it was an expensive one. when he came to stay with me he left the bed at his mothers i fell preg and he asked if he could have it and she could have mine also expensive but smaller. I always assumed when we moved and got a bigger place i would get it back as it was given to me by my gran. I text the inlaw today and she said i cant hav it. I wanted it for my son as its a really good bed and its just sitting in her spare room she has another spare room with a double bed in it so its not like someone is stuck without a bed. she said she had taken advice and as its in her house its her property. I got the bed before i was with my partner and dont see why we should pay for another bed whe we hav already got really good ones

you get on well with the m-i-l then :)
get her son to ask her!
If that dosen't work, is it really worth all the hassle of falling out with her over a bed? (beds are cheap in the grand scheme of things)
It would seem from what you have said in your op that you simply swapped your bed for the one at her house. 'I always assumed' gets you nowhere. Did she realise you intended to get it back? What were the terms for the storage of the bed? Would you have still wanted it back if a 'houseguest' had p!ssed in it? or if you had visited and your child had thrown up in it?

Unless you specificly and unequivicly said 'this is my bed and you are just looking after it and will have to return it to me when required' or words to that effect, then I don't see what you can do.

For her to have taken advice on the matter would indicate that there is more to this than simply returning stored goods. Anyway just because it is in her house doesn't make it her property.. Has somene told her possesion is 9/10 of the law or something? Tell that to the bailif or pc when they cme round to collect stolen good lol
