in which the subject of receipts has arisen. Can anyone tell us if it is against the law not to give a receipt. The shop that did not give the receipt was Greggs. I was of the opinion that a large concern like this would give receipts automatically but . . .?

Many places don't give receipts unless you ask for one. It's all about being green now. I doubt anyone would want a receipt for a sausage roll.
Me neither SB, for my usual Sausage and Bean melt
........i would'nt stand behind me when i've had it either, if i were you :0)
I will BEAR that in mind.
I don't believe it is against the law, rather store policy and of course as a customer you must insist on one for anything you may need to return.
It would be a big BOO BOO not to heed the warning, SB

So, looks as if you have ask for one. But what happens when you want to complain and you can't produce a receipt?
Complain about what, a sausage roll?
My local Scotmid now only gives them if you ask. The checkout person sometimes asks if you want one.
If you don't get a receipt (even for a sausage roll) how do you know the money has gone in the till and not in the assistants pocket?

Jem
Once I've handed my 30p over and got my sausage roll, I don't care what they do with my money.
Where can you get a sausage roll for 30p?
Come down to Yorkshire lad. 4 for a pound in Cooplands bakery.
They should take your word for it if no reciept, otherwise why would you bother to go in and complain?

Was it cold?....i hate cold stuff when it's supposed to be warm , so i always ask them for the freshest out of the oven and hottest, as if it's cold, i hand it back....they dont warm them up again.
If we mean Greggs I would plonk the greasy bag on the counter.

Well, yes if the sausage roll is inedible. Why should you pay for it if you can't eat it? Unless you are rich squarebear you have to work for your money (unless you are on benefits) and you can't afford to throw money away.
Is this about the guy who bought a steak slice from Greggs and was upset when he didn't find the finest hand reared filet-mignon inside it? No offence to the fellow but what was he expecting?
Just gonna ask the same Q Scot.

Well in that case, you take it back. I once bought a sausage roll that was all roll and no sausage. I just took it back to show them and they gave me another. No need for a receipt.
If you are pinki, so am I.
