Discriminating against someone with a criminal past.

Well like quite a lot of the uk one way or another some have a criminal history. So why when you have made so much good out of your life since been relesed from prison you apply for a decent job to be CRB checked but then they say ooooo noooo sorry cant employ you as of your record? This is an issue for some jobs i get it but the fact some people are more than qualified to to the job more than others and better experience they would rather give the job to a non convicted person than someone with vast amounts of experience.

How do you know you are better qualified? Do you see all the CV's? However given the choice between two equaly qualified people, would you chose someone who has lived their life on the straight and narrow or someone who has been in prison?

because the job what was applied for i was more than qualified with a vast experience on both sides of the fense as a victim and as a perp. The job in question was to do with homicide and victims families and i have first hand experience of murder as my mum was killed along with other things but im talking in a situation of qualifications etc.

It will all depend on what you were convicted of and what area of employment you were entering, it is not discrimination as the company are just ensuring they have the correct person for the position.

Would you be happy if a teacher who had been convicted of inappropriate behaviour towards children was hired by the school your children attended?

Thats why i said depending on the posistion etc and the offense what was commited was nothing to do with the possition applied for. Just seems very unfair when they will take the skills of the person with the record for free but when they advertise a job an individual dont get it becuase of the record but they can work voluntary dont make scense to me.

So are you saying you have experience of both sides of this type of incident!! If so it makes it sound as though you have been the unfortunate victim of a serious crime that i sympathise with you for, however on the other side to have first hand experience as a perp would put you in the murderer sector.... Not the sort of person you want visiting vulnerable people in their own homes.

So committing a criminal offence may effect your future employment opportunities.

This is hardly breaking news, or a shock to be honest. if you didn't want a criminal record to effect your employment chances then you shouldn't have committed the offence in the first place. There is only one person to blame for this, yourself.

Sorry no my mum was murdered but i was convicted of fraud which no doesnt excuse me what so ever but to have first hand experience of both sides of the fense then im sorry they used me for my work voluntary but as soon as a job comes up im not allowed to do it but strange they would allow me to work for them doing the same job with out pay. Highly unfair but again i guess thats life.. Milly i have no probs in been asked who it was and people can be very judgemental about my past but i have to protect my family from issues to hense i cannot mention anything of who my mum was sorry

In today's market the employer has to make tough choices after the selection and interview process. There will be probably be several excellent candidates and a convicted fraudster will not be at the top of the list.
Fraud is deception, and no employer will want dishonest employees that cannot be trusted.
You have recently showed this is the case - you can't be trusted not to re-offend.

But to employ someone voluntary and then now there not good enough bit of a bad outcome.. and like i have said hc... if a person is convicted of speeding more than once does that mean they aint trusted to drive again? Nope. I get i wouldnt of been at the top of the list but why give someone employment of voluntary work doing the same as what the paid persons job would do and dismiss my application to gain paid work.

You have admitted on another thread you are due in court for attempted fraud, it is not an assumption on my part.
Anyway, a driver's speeding would have no impact on an employer unless the job involved driving.

Oh right sure but a driver could kill someone totally so there for cannot be trusted but im sure you have never borken the law in any way shape or form. Clearly a judgemental person who believes that people have no right to gain a good job with a record.

Killing someone in a car ACCIDENT is totally different to setting out to deceive and rob.
It worries me that you consider your crimes to be on a par with speeding. Are you telling me that conmen don't speed?
By your attitude I would expect you to think nothing of wangling a sickie because you couldn't be bothered, fiddling your overtime and your mileage allowances and helping yourself to 'perks'.
You haven't learned from your spell in prison and you're only sorry you were caught.

hc - people only learn one thing in prison, how to commit crime and get away with it. Or as a few of the "perp's" I have dealt with have said, all they want is to get caught as quick as possible so they can get back to their cushy cell where everything they want is paid for by honest taxpayers!!
