gbh with intent
my father got arrested this morning for gbh and i have heard they was a glass used to strike this other person who has pressed charges i dont know weather my father has been charged yet . but if he does what sentance is he looking at ? he has got previous violent convictions two i think but they was over 10 years ago . the younger man started the fight in his 30's i think and my dad in his 50's hit the man who later came back with 5 more ppl and this is when the glass incident happened and if the man drops the charge will the police still charge him . they also took the clothes my dad was wearing

2) you don't state what injuries the man has
3) you don't state whether your father would intend to plead guilty or not guilty
it would be pointless putting the wind up you by telling you what could happen until you know the above

As mentioned before there isn't enough info here but the age difference isn't likely to be a factor either way. If your dad was charged with GBH with intent (rather than just GBH, or ABH) then it can be a serious matter but it really depends on the specific details of the incident.
If the victim does "drop the charges" it doesn't mean your dad will not be prosecuted, especially for such a serious type of assault. The decision whether or not to charge is down to the CPS ultimately, not the victim.
