They've caught my burglar!

Last June we had a break in and some items stolen. I've just received a letter from the police to say the offender has been charged and is now serving a 5 year sentence for mine and several other burglaries in the area. I'm really pleased, even though it's highly unlikely I'll ever get my stuff back.

But then it goes on to say, "A full file of evidence is in the process of being submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service for a decision on any further prosecution.". Does this mean they have other crimes that he/she may have committed and that they are currently awaiting a CPS decision on? Or something else? MIght they reduce the sentence, perhaps?

'my' burglar was caught after 3 years. He was charged with 50+ offences and got sentenced to 3 and a half years. I can imagine you've got a huge sense of relief, please don't have high hopes of getting any items returned (I didn't, tho you might be luckier!)

When I was burgled they caught him and I got most of my stuff back - which was a pity cos most of it was pretty duff and I was hoping to get new replacements :)

shouldn't think they're about to reduce the sentence - once he's sentenced, he's sentenced. The CPS don't have a say in that, they just bring prosections.

They wouldn't reduce the sentence. But that might happen if he appealed.
