Spotify is legal if you listen to your chosen music through that site. The copyright holders get paid their proper monies.
It is ILLEGAL to download music from Spotify. You are stealing from the rights holder.

Are you using the paid for version of Spotify. If not and you are using the free version, they recently introduced some new rules, about how long you can listen to (10 hours a month) and you can only listen to one track a maximum of 5 times ever. If you are using the free version you cannot download and save any tracks.
