If you no longer wish to watch television and you are only going to use your TV screen for games and DVDs, how should you go about this, how do you let the television licencing people know? Is there something you can disable on your Tv so that they believe you? Thank you

if you have a TV with built in freeview you'd struggle to convince them, but they're not allowed to come on anyway. They'll just have to believe you I guess.
This is a tricky one. If you have an aerial receiving signals which is attached to your TV then you have to pay. Best advice would be to take any aerial down and disable the aerial hole for the TV. MInd you a friend of mine has never owned a TV and had a devil of a job persuading the people of this fact.
Not that I'd bother.
Well surprise surprise there is a web site for TV licensing (who would have thought that eh)

And on that web site there is a place where you can say you no longer watch TV. It is here (took me about 15 seconds to find it)

Thank you everyone. In the form to fill in, it says choose an option; i.e I'm only going to use my TV for games, or I'm only going to watch DVDs etc. But why can't you select two or more of these things. Can anyone help?

Thanks everyone for your answers. VHG by the way, this is a questions and answer site, and kind people on here like to help with answers. Hope that's not a problem for you. : )
I believe if your equipment is capable of receiving a signal then you're supposed to pay up but if you NEVER watch then you'll never be guilty and never get caught so why bother.
if you fill that in and contact them they will want to search your house.

do what i do

tell them to go forth and mulitply

the people who call at your house are just salesmen, they use the word enforcer to make them sound big so just pull the aerial out and tape it up
and if they call don't speak to them as they have no power.

They assume that everyone has a TV and watches it. TV detector vans don't detect anything. They are just a deterrent.
Question Author
Thanks Dr Filth. It all sounds very Big Brothery, doesn't it.
They are very expensive divining machines ..
Have you never seen their antennas twitch while driving by?

Stupid lot.

Eddie51 Outrageous. I would have cancelled it and demanded money back.
you have more chance of nessie giving you a bite than a tv detector van catching you

there is no such thing as a tv detector, no person has ever been found guilty with the evidence from one in a court of law

the only thing in that van is a laptop with all the addresses of properties that do not have a licence
Question Author
Yes, I know, someone who drove a detector van told me there was no detecting equipment. I don't like the idea of constantly being pestered because they can't believe that someone doesn't want to watch all the crap that's on TV nowadays.
Just pay your licence like the rest of us do.
notafish they love to visit young ladies and old folk as they scare them with the threat of a £1000 fine and a pace statement

if they call just close the door do not speak to them
if or when they call do not even tell them your name

they can't take a house to court that is why they want a name

they did a young lady near me when he said i am going to take your statement under the law she should have just said p1ss off and closed the door

even the police can't make you give a statement
crap meaning adverts.

Advert Channel meaning SKY : )

Why pay for something I'm not watching, Hopkirk? It'll be nice not watch it for a while. If I watch it again, then I'll pay again.
Nota, If you're 75 you don't have to have or pay for a TV licence.
Can't you wait.?
