I paid in two cheques into my Santander account. They have been cashed, but have been placed in someone elses account. I keep being fobbed off by the bank, they'll look into it and come back to me, but this was in April and still no contact back. Any ideas

The best advice is to change bank accounts when (and if) this is sorted.
Santander has a terrible reputation re efficiency and customer care.
Go into your branch and demand that it is sorted out. It is their mistake not yours. Stay there until it is sorted. Discuss the problem, in a loud voice, with as many other customers as you can.
Write to Watchdog, or one of the financial help sections in the sunday papers and they will help you. They also give them bad press so they will no doubt resolve the matter very quickly.
escalate the problem by writing to them and stating your referring the matter to the banking ombudsman. I'm assuming you gone through the complaints procedure and kept copies of all correspondence.
Hi. I'm wondering how this error occurred? Did you pay them in over the counter using one of your paying-in slips, or deposit them in a machine?
Thanks
If you haven't yet gone through their complaints procedure ask in the branch for a copy of it - they have to give it to you. Then follow it, keeping copy of all letters & sending them first class recorded delivery.

Santander are notoriously incompetent in many ways - they may well not respond to your complaint & then pretend they never got it, so the recorded delivery is vital.
