Paying to park outside your house
http://www.dailymail....-ramps-green-tax.html
Should all councils charge the occupier to park his car outside his house? With a shortgage of garage space nationally has the time come to keep our streets clear allowing access, keep the traffic moving and cut down on the number of accidents that parking causes. They do this quite successfuly in France.

In any case no one is supposed to be able to reserve the road outside their house for their own private use, well except when you drop the kerb and pave over your garden it seems, then apparently you can grab the public road for yourself.
i live in a street where every house has a driveway capable of having at least 3 cars on it, yet one of the neighbours insists on parking both of their cars on the street and my next door neighbour parks his car on the street outside my front window so that his wife doesn't have to see it when she looks out of their window! On top of this the local school has banned teachers from parking within the school and in the vicinity of the school due to safety issues so now i have a teacher who parks her car outside my house, gets picked up and driven round to the school!
I hate people parking on the street whent hey dont need to so if it would stop this then its a good thing!

If 'booking their place' means no one else can park there, then one is inconveniencing the visitors and pushing a parking problem on to an adjacent area, which is selfish and no real solution. What if everyone did this, you could never stop at your destination. One needs parking at the destination for the system to work. Paying off the council's space protection racket in order to get more rights than others, solves little. But if the problem is pushed elsewhere it can be ignored and claim it's worked well.

Like Chelle, there are some resident only parking pays around Manchester, mainly near commuter areas like met (tram) stops where people drive in, park up somewhere and hop on the met into town or around large venues such as Salford Quays (has it's own attractions and is near Old Trafford and LCC).
There was a local news article recently with residents of an area walkable from the city centre where the roads are just getting cluttered with commuters' cars, blocking roads in some cases and stopping residents from parking. No residents parking there so nothing to stop them.
I think it's a shame they can't build more met stations/lines where there is more land to be able to provide large car parking facilities for commuters. I don't see why they can't have commuter stops as well as ones in residential areas.

no way, I struggle to park near my home, and pay a fortune in council tax already!.......our council are considering selling us a parking pass, for £35 which allows us to park from 5pm to 8pm, and then we need to feed a meter if we park through the day!........this is disgusting!........what if residents are retired like me!........
so what are you supposed to do if you need to pop into a shop and need to park down a side road? or visiting a friend?
or just going anywhere you want to go? you could be driving round in circles for hours.
you could perhaps allow the homeowner to purchase the use of the road outsside their house for an annual fee and paint signs or whatever...so that was anyone who has an issue can buy thier space
