All calls from prisoners are logged.
The prisoner has to submit a list of the people and numbers he/she wants to have on their 'call list' .
A prisoner can only call the people on his or her list
Prisons no longer issue phone cards as they were used as currency. The current system is that the prisoner gives a list of the people they want to be able to call to the prison authorities. Once approved the prisoner gets a special code to dial before dialing the number itself. This code lets the system know which prisoner is calling and that the particular prisoner has permission to call that person.
It will be easy to see if
a . The prisoner (your ex) has your number on his 'call list'
b . To establish if and when he called and the duration of the call
Calls are not recorded but there is a record kept of every call.
Also prisoners get only a very small allowance of credit for everything they want including phone calls (no cash is used inside prison) so a prisoner would not be able to call ''all the time'' , 2 or 3 short calls a week would be all that they could afford.
Your ex is trying it on , don't fall for it !

Ummmm yes, you can send money to a prisoner, care of the govener, but it goes into a credit account to be spent in the prison shop , called 'canteen' .
That is where the prisoners get their sweets and fags, it all comes out of their 'canteen account' . Phone calls come out of the canteen account as well but they have a limit so that even if a particular prisoner has cash sent to his/her account they can not get extra phone calls.
They used to sell phone cards which prisoners could buy with canteen credit but they were being used as currency for fags and drugs , so the current phone system was set up to stop it.
As far as I know there is a limit of £30 a week on 'canteen credit' no matter where it comes from.
