we have just got married a very quiet marriage as i dont have lots of friends or family.does anyone know about changing documents in to my married name?my passport has only just been renewed so i dont want to pay out again for a new one but can i keep it in my old name?also do you have to pay to change your driving licence over and bank details?and can you keep some things in your old name and change just somethings.also my job means i have to have crb checks wont that cause confusion if documents are in 2 names?any advice.thanks
You certainly don't have to change your name, but I think it will be very confusing if you partially change it. If you don't change your passport or your driving licence, it'll be very hard to provide ID in your new name.
All or nothing I'd say. When I did it I used an online service which was really useful. Can't remember the name of it now, but I can search if you're interested.
I know loads of people who have either not changes or partially changed. I think the only one it caused a problem with is a Canadian friend who's kids have her husbands surname and she has to take permission from him to take them into Canada if he isn't there.
I didn't change my name when we got married so use my previous name for everything. However, in my will it says my name also known as my name as if I'd changed it! Remember to update your will - marriage seems to overrule old ones.
