Last will.
A relative died recently and in his will he left a certain house to his sister. The balance of his estate which comprised of a house, small holding, vehicles and other equipment he left to his partner. If there are any other claims against the estate such as unpaid bills, personal loans etc. will these be paid from the tally of the whole estate and divided proportionately or will they be paid from the bulk of the estate excluding the special bequest to his sister?

Normally such bills and expenses come from the residuary estate - ie the bequest to the sister is not touched. Which yes might lead to some of he residuary having to be sold to pay them.

It was a very simple will so should be as stated but it is amazing how nastiness comes out when there is a will and an inheritance. I don't think there are even any legitimate claims on the estate but between the other beneficiary and other family members they are trying to deprive my cousin of her house.
