Home Insurance Cancelled By Insurance Company
7 Answers
Hi all,
A couple of years ago I made a claim on my 'PET' insurance, but the claim was declined because (unintentionally) the age of the cat on the policy was 1 year different to the age of the cat on the vets records. Consequently, the insurance company also cancelled the 'PET' insurance.
Now, 2 years later, I get a phone call from my 'HOME' insurance company, and they inform me that they are cancelling my home insurance because I had insurance cancelled in the past and didn't tell them.
The problem is that I didn't think that I had to declare my 'PET' insurance cancellation when taking out a 'HOUSE' insurance policy. Who would think that?!!!!
So - I now have cancelled pet and house insurance against my name, all because the cats age was 1 year different than the insurance company's records.
Does anyone know if this situation is resolvable? I am now paying more than twice the house insurance, twice the car insurance and can't get pet insurance - over 1 year difference!
Am I stuck with this expensive ball-and-chain forever, or does anyone know is there is a way to fix this type of situation so that I dont keep getting ripped-off by the Insurance companies?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Vern

You say your car insurance premium has doubled- is that also because of this issue with the cat?
How material was the information about the cat to your claim? If the policy only covered cats up to age 7, for example and yours was 8 but you said it was 7 then I can see why they cancelled it, but in other circumstances it could seem a little harsh.
I expect that the house insurance proposal asked whether you had ever been declined/ had cancelled any insurance, not just house insurance, but check the wording

But complain politely in writing to the insurance company first.
