Parking Tickets

I have just got a parking ticket on the windscreen of my car.  I had only left it on the street for 10 minutes.  The Traffic Warden has written my registration number on wrong ( they have used a number 1 instead of the letter i)  Do I have any grounds for appeal for the ticket not being written out properly.

you might have problems persuading the Lord Chief Justice that a 1 isn't just a fancy way of writing an i. No harm in trying, though.

The ticket has to be correct in every detail, or it is invalid. How do you know that the rego on the ticket isn't for another car that was there then gone when you came out?

Look at it like this, If they don't have your address, how are they going to know it was your car? they will send the reminder notice to the owner of the car that the rego matches. I think...

mouthu is right - you can't receive a summons if they don't have your address.  But it doesn't take much thought on their part to realise that a number should be a letter.  Then they have to get the details right on the summons.  It doesn't matter what was on the ticket, which is only an invitation to get it over quickly and cheaply.  If it does go to court because the ticket is unpaid, they can impose a much bigger fine.  They can't just guess what mistake they made, so will only be able to prove that your car was involved if the warden is a belt-and-braces type who made a separate note of the car number with some other identifying detail, such as the serial number of the tax disc.  Of course it may not be worth their while because there will be plenty of straightforward cases tomorrow.

have had one myself- a number missed off the registration. So chucked it away. Never heard anything else and never expected to.

Normally I'd say stick it in the bin if they have written your registration wrong but in you case it's likley that once they check the number they have written and find it's not valid they might realise the mistake and track down your car.
