Wedding/engagement Rings

Inspired by SandyRoe's thread about a lost engagement ring it got me wondering about the habits of others.

I wear my rings pretty much all the time, although not everyone does and I am curious why some don't wear theirs?

I know a lady who chooses to wear rings she has inherited from family members in favour of her engagement ring. I find this somewhat odd and am interested in what others think about this?

I never take mine off. I think he'd be offended if I chose to wear an inherited ring instead of my engagement ring.

I very rarely wear my engagement ring. In fact, I'm not sure that I know where it is.

I never used to wear mine at work (NHS) because, although allowed to, i felt it was better hygiene not to. I am now retired and widowed and my fingers tend to change size so i don't wear them at all but wouldn't wear anything else on the same finger except for a ring given to me by my late husband, which does fit. I wear any other rings on my right hand.

That's somewhat ironic given that you said on the other thread you don't wear it for fear of losing it Tilly! ;-)

I agree Ummm, if I was the Husband I think I would be a little put out!

Why don't you know where your engagement ring is tilly ? Why isn't it important to you ?

The present Mrs Hughes never did get to have an engagement ring - we were never really 'engaged' as such - we decided to get married, organised it, and did it.

I bought her an eternity ring on the birth of our third daughter (my biological offspring).

She wears her wedding ring all the time, never takes it off, and her eternity ring the majority of the time. When she is abroad working - as she is now - her eternity ring is on all the time.

I have a wedding ring which I wear all the time - I take it off in the bath when i remember, but that's the only time.

I would be upset if my wife wore inherited rings in place of the rings I have given her, which I feel are of significance for both of us.

I wear my engagement, wedding and eternity ring all of the time and have done since I received them, the first being the engagement one some errrr time ago! The only time they were removed is when I lost the stone to one of them and had to have a new one put in.

I don't wear my engagement ring any more because my fingers have swollen so much with arthritis that it doesn't fit - Queenie has asked me not to have it resized as she really likes it and hopes she might inherit it some day. My wedding band has been resized twice but I won't be doing that again

Similar to Woof I remove my rings for hygiene reasons when working or doing something mucky in the house/garden. The ring finger of my left hand is sacrosanct in my view.

Was never engaged and was never given an eternity ring (hubby too mean). My wedding ring came off the day we separated. My daughter has it now although she doesn't wear it. If it had been up to me it would have been thrown in the river. No I'm not bitter!!!!

I've only got a wedding ring which tbh I'd have rather not had, I don't much like 'proper' jewellery but Mr R insisted so I wear it and never take it off (except when my fingers started to swell up during pregnancy). Mr R on the other hand had to stop wearing his wedding ring as he caught it on some metal at work and it nearly took his finger off, he has no idea where it is.

I know someone who lost their finger because of their wedding ring. It couldn't have happened to a nicer person....

My wife's wedding ring wore so thin that it broke and she had to buy another one (we were married in 1964), but she doesn't feel 'comfortable' wearing the replacement ring.

bookbinder - if you still have the original, I am sure a jeweller will melt it down and re-cast a new ring for you - maybe that would be better for your lovely wife?

I wonder if it's the same knobhead I know who lost a finger in the same way, shame his ring wasn't round his neck! ;)

I wear my eternity and engagement rings.
I lost my wedding ring and blow hot and cold whenever a replacement is mentioned. On the one hand it would be nice to have a wedding ring but on the other hand it wouldn't be the same
