There was a guy last year who caught squirrels in a trap then drown them. A neighbour reported him & it cost him a £1,200 fine!!

Many years ago now, I knew a lady who lived in a smart part of Wimbledon. She bred and trained gundogs (weimaraners) and had retired from a job in the Treasury. She used to rent a shoot in Scotland. one year she had a rat problem in the garden. She wouldn't use poison because of the dogs so she got humane traps and the council used to come and take the rats away to dispose of them. She caught one on a bank holiday though so rather than leave the rat caged, she warned her neighbours, got out her shotgun and blasted it. The best bit of the story though was that she told us she was at a very boring lunch for high level retired civil servants so in a lull in the conversation, she said, in her best huntin shootin fishin drawl... "shot a rat yesterday" Sensation at lunch table! Goodness I miss her.
