I've been sent a fine from Paid Parking Company for a £100 even though I purchased a £4.00 ticket, which more than covered my stay.
My crime, was failing to enter my full registration number.
I seem to remember hearing that these Paid Parking Company cameras are notorious for being unreliable and therefore unlawful, is this true ?

Not as such, no
The law has changed to make them potentially legal.
However, should they take you to court and you turn up to defend the case then they will probably lose. If they take you to court and you don't turn up or enter a defence then there's a distinct possibility they will win.
However they probably won't think it worth it taking you to court. So it's safe to ignore it, for now anyway

I had an 'invoice' from a similar company a couple of years ago. I went onto a diy store car park one morning, found it didn't open until 9:00 so I left. It was a free car park but I had broken the rules by entering when the store was shut. At that time they could only charge the driver and you could not be forced to identify who was driving at the time. That has all changed now and the registered keeper can be charged.
I understand that some of these companies are now taking court action so I would not just ignore it. There are many sites that will have up to date info if you do a Google search.

The circumstances of Chipchopper receiving a £100 'invoice' for failing to complete his registration number, when paying full price for a ticket, is a world apart from the £85 parking charge imposed on Mr Beavis, as reported by divebuddy.
This is what happened to Mr Beavis:
'A parking charge of £85 imposed once a motorist overstayed a permitted two-hour period of free parking was not extravagant or unconscionable in the circumstances and was enforceable at law.
The Court of Appeal so stated when dismissing the appeal of the defendant, Barry Beavis, against a decision of Judge Moloney QC in Chelmsford County Court on 19 May 2014 giving judgment in favour of the claimant, Paid Parking Company Ltd, on its claim for recovery of a charge of £85 for overstaying the permitted period of free parking in the car park at of Riverside Retail Park in Chelmsford'.

I just cant believe it, those shysters (for want of a better word) at "Paid Parking Company"
have just sent me a reminder for the £100.00 without any acknowledgement of the appeal plus the £4.00 ticket that I had purchased on the day in question.
I now realise that I was stupid to send the ticket off with my appeal.
I've just made a separate appeal online, in the hope that the letters crossed in the post.
Sadly I'm not holding out much hope now, as these people are nothing less than cold hearted, modern day highwaymen!. Bless them.........not.
Rant over, but I can't say I feel any better for it.
