How Do I Report An Illegal Job Advert

Does anyone know how to report an illegal job advert? A local well known Fish And Chip Shop has a very large notice in their window saying "Waitress Required" that is illegal. As a man I find that offensive and it should be illegal

They'd need to change that. Perhaps they could put: 'Serving person required. Must wear a skirt when on duty and a nice pair of legs would be an advantage'.

Pop in and speak to the manager, they'll probably be horrified at their mistake once pointed out.

Despite the mick taking, you are quite right. The law should work both ways and not just be to the advantage of one gender. Good luck with getting a serious answer though.

Just go in and politely explain the law to them, they probably do not realise the problem. Do not be aggressive that will just antagonise them.

Good for you.... for noticing and wanting to do something about it. I think I would be tempted o start by speaking to the owner in a pleasant manner , drawing his/her attention to the issue.Strange how people seem quite happy to let people break laws without ,at least, drawing attention to it. I wonder if they are the people just walk on by when any crime is committed... or perhaps they feel that they have the right to decide which laws it is ok to break...

I'm appalled at some of these answers - this is the law topic, not chatterbank. This advert is illegal.

The advert contravenes the Equality Act and if the manager refuses to rectify it, send a photo of the advert to your local paper.

If you want to apply for the job and they refuse to consider you because you are a man, contact CAB.
