A teenage pupil has accident whilst playing football in school and felt her knee go pop, her p.e. teacher helps a little and sends for a wheel chair, the head of the p.e department walks past so teacher asks for his help, he bends pupils leg causing massive pain, but tells pupil its fine walk it off, he then walks away, thee pupil was left to walk over 400 metres to see school first aider.with the help of her school friends, that person phoned pupils mother three times in 30 mins.as she was in so much pain, ,pupil taken to hospital by mother where MRI. Scan shows dislocation in knee cap, torn tendons, severere bruising to bones and a build up of fluid in knee, the pupil is a under 17 top athlete and is involved in many things in her area, she now has months of physiotherapy in front of her she will miss a season of competing, and even though her school has offered to help by given her home work she has exams in few weeks but it unable to get to certain lesson do you think the mother should complain to somebody higher than the head of the school

head teacher first..then further if not satisfied with response..as head of PE this chap ought to have known the correct line of action and needs a first aid refresher course...girl should have been wheelchaired to hossie for x rays and treatment..he probably made matters so much worse !
Yes indeed! The PE teacher is out of order. His off hand attitude is is unacceptable.
I would have called an ambulance there and then, forget moving her at all!

Who knows what damage could have been done just by getting her to stand up. I would go ballistic if that were my daughter!
My nephew displaced his knee cap playing football last year. Its taken all this time for him to have his knee op & now he's on 3mts sick leave.

Yes, complain so no other pupils suffer same.

So head of p.e. department has to account for his actions by leaving her,he is also coach to schools rugby team so should know better ,the pupil is gutted she cannot compete in any competitions this season, and possibly operation on her knee to drain fluid and repair tendons
buck stops with him I would say !! very remiss and negligent !
Both of the PE teachers should have known what they were doing. The Head of the school needs to carry out an investigation.
Really? I have to go against everyone else and say just get on with it! the PE teacher probably has to put up with pupils crying wolf all the time!!

This sort of thing is why the teachers don't want to get involved so now they parents are considering complaints and legal action!!

In my day you got on with it!
Islay..not when a child's well being is at risk ..obvious injury needed proper care
Islay, this is a serious injury, possibly ending in the end of the girl's athletic life. It's certainly not a case of 'Get on with it.' The PE teacher should be in serious trouble.
Just wondering why this is in Law? I don't think this situation will make it to a court of law.
Question Author
I posted in law because I feel the school has a duty of care to its pupils ,the head of p.e. department ignored this, they also know that this pupil would not cry wolf as she has competed for the school many times
indeed it does Gypsy and head of PE should know better..he is in serious doodah...
So he should be.

I also must add she has been training in althlectics since she was old enough to start ,and ranked number one in her chosen field ,so this injury could have happened at anytime but the aftercare and immediate treatment was ignored by both teachers
The head of the PE dept was very negligent. He should have asked what happened and helped get her in the wheel chair then taken her to first aid while awaiting the ambulance. Formal complaint to the headmaster as a first step. If no satisfactory response then consult a solicitor over suing the school for negligence.

Do get back to us and let us know what happens, Gypsy.
