This is a rather delicate question so before asking it, I do not intend to cause offence to anyone (I love you all). Is it correct to call someone with a dark coloured skin black or is it better to say coloured. This will settle an argument please.

// Would it be so bad to simply say Hopkins is the black guy and Jones is the white guy.//

or even "Hopkins is beating the crap out of whitey as they normally do"

When I lived in Zambia people were described as having a White or a Dark complexion.
I pity the Eskimos, they have to spend most of their lives surrounded by white things.
Mongolian perhaps....?
I'm sorry, I haven't read the whole thread, but it seems that "people of colour" is the correct term nowadays.
When does white shade into black? 1/4 1/3 1/2 2/3 3/4 etc
Conversely why not have black shading into white?
I'm chuckling away here, I'm Indian, I'm living in Baldric's home atm, we've been friends for a long time, he always refers to me as 'my coffee coloured friend' and before anyone comments he doesn't have a prejudiced bone in his body, trust me, I'm a Doctor.
People of colour? Sunbathers or politically red or blue for example?
The Inuits of Sarf Lunnon won't be happy either ...
A neighbour of mine became Grandmother to twins some years ago and she called them her little chocolate buttons - there was so much love in her eyes when she spoke you could only smile.
To be pedantic, I'm not white but various shades of pink, so I guess we're all coloured.
Clover, I referred to the phrase "of colour" earlier in the thread, but my belief was/is that nobody now uses it. (I say that purely on the basis that I myself have not come across it for years.)

// I'm chuckling away here, I'm Indian, //

[sorry sorry just sudduv making a comment on a cold summers day]

You're bowing to Political Correctness. Why don't you just ask, instead of tip-toeing? You're don't care whether or not you hurt someone's delicate feelings, you're worried about what people think of you
PeterPedant at 0710, you had a pot at me on a thread a couple of days ago, I make no secret of being Indian. Are you sure you are not just a little prejudiced?
Luv the doc....
no I luv the doc

other poster will confirm that I do not ever intend to offend anyone
( not even AOG )
Your reputation does not stand alone then?
Ah Well, never mind.
Lovely to see you posting, Starone. It's been a while, hasn't it? (unless I've just missed you, as it were)
