Who Will Protect Us From Those Above The Law?

In an age where so called elites are able to control governments and institutions especially law, who, (if anyone) is able to hold these wealthy and powerful individuals and groups accountable for crimes against humanity and serve justice upon them? For example: Some suggest Bill Gates to be involved in this global Covid19 pandemic, if such a theory was true who would have the power to hold such an individual accountable? If there is none, is he above the law?

The 'Bill Gates theory' is utter rubbish anyway.

Someone looked through a list of patents to see if there was anything there related to the word 'coronavirus'. They found that there was, indeed, a patent registered for a vaccine against coronavirus. When they investigated further, they found out that the institute holding that vaccine was in receipt of funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. The next thing we've got is conspiracy theories going all around the world, suggesting that Bill Gates is somehow behing Covid-19 or looking to make money out of the patent that he's sitting on.

The truth though is that there are loads of different coronaviruses. For example, unless they've managed to go through their lives without ever having had a common cold, everyone reading this thread has had a coronavirus loads of times. (There are four different coronaviruses which can result in common cold symptoms). Further, many coronaviruses don't attack humans at all. The patent that the conspiracy theorists have linked to is actually several years old and relates only to a vaccine against a specific form of coronavirus found in poultry. (i.e. it has absolutely nothing to do with Covid-19 in humans). The body that helped to develop that vaccine does, indeed, receive funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation but only in the same way that many other charitable bodies do. (i.e. there's no direct link between Bill Gates himself and the bodies which receive funding from foiundation which he set up).

So the idea that Bill Gates is in some way linked to Covid-19 is UTTER NONSENSE. It's not Bill Gates (et al) who should be 'held to account'. It's the conspiracy theorists behind such ridiculous stories who should be.

Gates and other billionaires, along with the big corporations and banks, hedge funds etc, will screw the last bit of profit out of even the poverty stricken Indian dirt farmers.
Until governments are not owned by big money, there is no chance of outlawing neo liberalism which is one of the main causes of global poverty, and of course they operate above he law.

Whilst unions have a role in many areas such as collective bargaining, work conditions, and health and safety, they also have their own political interests, which often are not to the benefit of their members. I can't see how UK unions will have much effect on the US, China, or India.

Pressure needs to come from somewhere to curtail their powers.

I agree TheLand that there needs to be a way of regulating these multinationals which are larger and more powerful than many countries. Here's the rub, many of them are based in the US and are adept at using licensing deals and tax havens to protect their income. The US has little interest in stopping them and there's no "world government". Then there is the question over the level of control China exercises on its conglomerates.

How can we ensure Amazon pays a reasonable amount of tax on its UK business, or that Huawei is honest about whether it is including monitoring capabilities in its hardware?

We can do our best to ensure those things by paying attention to real life and ignoring the outpourings of sports stars and TV personalities.

In a nutshell then, nothing, it won't happen because people are lazy and gullible.
