Everybody's entitled to an opinion, "the ultimate insult" might be taking things a tad far given the dodgy history of military and political choices down the years.

I note they're only threatening to return medals at the mo so incandescence has yet to be reached, this could run for a while yet selling bajillions of newspapers, which in the end is what it's about for The Mail.

It's also a handy diversion for the current mob of inadequates in power.

On the contrary it’s thought the Queen thought Blair interfered in that and that’s the reason the knighthood has taken so long.
And as long as Tony Blair wasn’t knighted then none of his successors could be, by tradition.

Imho the entire honours system is a joke. For example the civil service and military get an annual quota of gongs to hand out. Governing bodies of major UK sports also nominate senior officials by virtue of their position rather than their worth.
