I think the govt should close everywhere down and furlough everyone. Tell everyone to keep away from each other (say, 2 metres?) for fear of over-crowding/overheating; stay cool by drinking lots of water and immersing your forearms in a bowl of water. Stay at home and follow those instructions until a vaccine comes along to combat heatstroke and sunstroke. Y'all know it makes sense! What do you think?

Erm, before you ask, the heat hasn't got to me yet. Wibble Wibble.

Thanks for the replies folks. Time for brekkie. A full English. Yummy. Byeeeeeee!
In this heat, are you mad? Cornflakes with milk from the fridge would be healthier.
Though not nearly as tasty.
None of the above. It's hot. Live with it.
Nothing new here, as long as I can remember the medico-political advice given during "heatwaves" as been the same, more like common sense of which some people will take heed and others won't.

Same as the situation with Covid.

If folks will not take notice of medical advice, then " you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" ...pun intended.

Yes, a bit of natural and usual panic over "heatwaves".
How many people are going to die or risk rescuers' lives by swimming and diving where they shouldn't? There is a very deep quarry not to far from me filled with very cold water - fences, warning signs and patrols doesn't seem to stop idiots from diving and tombstoning.
You must have had a dip in the quarry yourself, Baz. Y'know, to know the water's very cold:-J

Although i am retired, i was supposed to be decorating at my brother's cottage next week. I've taken a rain check on that. If the temperature is anywhere near the forecast mark, it'll be far too hot to be doing nothing more than is necessary.
You’re right 10ClarionSt, we should also stock up on ice and bottled water in case the country runs out of the stuff and buy up paddling pools for our pets.

Is there a leaflet? Should I turn my heating down a bit?
I put those ice pack things for cool boxes in the freezer. Wrap them in tea towels and put in the bed or behind my back when I'm sitting down. I don't cope with heat very well, so it helps.
I think you should turn it down a tad Maydup, just to be on the safe side really ....

Barry, short of air conditioning, the best way to keep your house cool is to keep the heat out in the first place. Do as they do in hot countries. Pull the curtains/blinds across the windows during the day.
Boogie Nights is a timeless tune.

said that to a neighbour and got a classic AB Rx: "foo he said cats pant foo dat. hear dat Irma-Lu? ( his wife) cats pant. foo! - - Irma: (his wife for those with a short memory) whatta loada pony!
19c and a slight drizzle in Cambuslang the noo.
The temperature may be influenced by the ventilation grille I'm parked under at the back of Greggs though.

In conclusion, cat pants must be the ultimate pet accessory.
Naomi, not so simple for me as I don't live alone and my oldsters never seem to be warm enough
