Single yellow parking ticket

I recently received a parking ticket, as I parked my car on a single yellow line. This was between the hours of 08.00 a.m. and 6 p.m. the warning sign, stating these hours was at least 30 metres away, and I did not notice it. The single yellow line was not continuous, with a break of at least 400mm, (due to drain cover). I recently watched a television programme, stating that such lines had to be continuous, without any break to be lawful, and double yellow lines should be crossed at each end. I have taken pictures to highlight this issue, could you please advise me, with regard to this matter, as I would like to appeal.

When I used to work in London I got a few tickets, I always appealed against them giving various excuses, some valid some made up, I was succesful about 75% of the time.

You are right about the line havng to be continuous and I think if there was a 2 feet or over gap the yellow line did not mean anything.

You do have a period of grace before paying the penalty so Appeal! you have nothing to loose. But be polite.

The Highway Code says "Red and single yellow lines CAN ONLY GIVE A GUIDE TO THE RESTRICTIONS AND CONTROLS IN FORCE AND SIGNS, NEARBY OR AT A ZONE ENTRY, MUST BE CONSULTED". (Their emphasis).

I would have thought that a line with a 400mm break in it was still capable of giving a guide to the restrictions and controls in force. This was a short break and parts of the line must have been under the vehicle, and therefore visible to the driver before parking. There is a stated case (which I cannot remember the reference to) which says that a small break due to road repairs etc. is of no consequence.

give it a go at appealing, this goverment gets enough money out of us through parking and speeding fines...

shame they dont put the money to good use like making the roads better.
