Job at Risk-Help
6 months ago I took employment as a Buyer. My conditions of contract state "buyer" and outline duties of the post. First 3 months I worked alongside another Buyer with the intention of splitting his work 50/50 between us. Due to an internal change I was asked to take over placing of sub-contract orders and although I was not pleased with this change in my duties (which I did express) I took those duties on board. Now the company has announced redundancies and I have been told my job is at risk. The statement read to me and the letter I have received has the line "Having reviewed the structure of the business, regrettably the position of Subcontract Co-ordinator is at risk of redundancy." (There is a meeting on Monday 20th to discuss this). I am the only one of the purchasing team to be told this. The letter refers to a position title that I believe is wrong-I was employed as Buyer. I feel this is a way of singling me out for redundancy.I have never been told that my position or title had changed only that within the team I was to look after sub-contract work. I sucessfully completed my 3 months probationary periodbut have been there only 6 months. What does anyone suggest?

Not in my area but but i am a Paralegal in a firm of sols so what i would do is this.
Get out your old contact and e-mail/send a memo to whoever is in your staffing dept or your line manager and state that you are empoyed as a buyer but had taken on a new role and not being given a new contact to reflect this new role thay wanted and as you are still employed there as a buyer legally under contact they an not terminate your contact if one does not exis. State that as your contact stated you were a buyer and any change in this has to be noted and agreed by both parties and a contact drawn. State that this was only meant as far as you are aware a temp change in your job and if it was meant to be a perm thing that you were never given a new contact stating this. If you have any documents enclosed these.
Also if you contact the Law Society on 020 7242 1222 they will be able to advise.
Good Luck
