Junk Mail

Having just filled my recycle wheelie bin with the latest load of glossy, expensive rainforest is there any way of stopping all this junk mail coming through my letter box?

Not having used it, I can't say how effective it is. As a postman, I can say that you will never stop all junk mail.
As a junk mail getter, I tend to reply if they supply a post paid envelope. I don't put anything in it, it just makes me feel that bit better knowing they have paid that postage for nothing.

Reading of peoples way of dealing with junk mail - one guy used to put all his used sweet wrappers in the pre-paid and write on the envelope, "had yours - heres mine".
As Postdog will confirm a lot of this mail is not addressed to an individual and sometimes not even an address, but the posties are obliged to put them through the letterbox!

MPS has stopped the junk mail for me - except for the ones the postie is obliged to deliver direct as this seems to be the trend to avoid the MPS
Also use the TPS to stop junk tel calls. If you haven't signed up - http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps

Would they take any notice if I put a sign on the door saying no junk mail? I also get loads of free papers and leaflets from local stores, as well as catalogues. The problem is, my dogs bark like crazy whenever anyone comes near the front door. Perhaps the sign should say junk mail will be eaten by dogs? Or even junk mail deliverers will be eaten by dogs!
I also have the Telephone Preference Service and this has stopped those annoying calls when there is no-one there because they have dialled hundreds of numbers at once.

Lankeela, putting a sign up saying no junk mail MAY deter someone else, but as a postman if it is addressed to you (or in the case of what we call door to doors (unstamped stuff) has been paid for to be delivered, we have to deliver it.
Come to that, the same could perhaps be said for non RM deliveries - they are being paid by others to deliver, not by you for not delivering.

@ postdog - that is such an evil thing to do, sending an empty envelope back........
That's exactly why i do it.....!!
It's a good trick for charity envelopes too, when they think you have put a note in and it's just a piece of paper saying 'please don't post your envelopes'here in future' (actually it says nothing of the sort but i think they get the gist!!)

Thanks Boo, Postdog & Mickmo for the web sited for mps & tps. I have just registered after having 3 weeks of phone calls from a loans company asking about our mortgage & they could help us to save money, despite leaving the receiver off the phone, in the end I put my son on who had the same initials as my husband, he let them rabbit on & then said I don't have a mortgage, no more calls.
